Car Rarity Change Compensation System - in detail

24.1

There's more to know about the upcoming Car Rarity Changes. How does the system work in detail? Welcome to the in-depth look at the Car Rarity Change Token Compensation system.

Summary of the feature

Here's what happens to the cars that change rarity in the upcoming update:

  1. Cars That Change Rarity in Update 24.1

    • When you update to version 24.1, any cars you own that change rarity will trigger the token compensation system.

    • These cars will have their upgrade states reset to 1.0 / 1.0 / 1.0 and will receive a Legacy Rarity status.

  2. Impact of Legacy Rarity

    • Cars with Legacy Rarity have the base sale price of their original rarity, and will be usable as fusion food at the value of their original rarity.

  3. Compensation Through Tokens

    • You will receive Upgrade Tokens and Fuse Tokens equal to the number of reset upgrades and fuses.

    • Tokens are issued based on the car’s rarity before the correction.

  4. Using Tokens

    • Tokens can be used to upgrade or fuse cars of matching rarity at no additional cost.

Important Note: Unlike the previous system, Upgrade and Fuse Tokens never expire. They remain available indefinitely, even if you stop playing the game.

Turbo Upgrading

As part of the token compensation feature, Turbo Upgrading function returns to help you accelerate the usage of the Tokens!

The function allows you to fully upgrade a car with a single button press—provided you have enough Fuse Tokens and Upgrade Tokens of the required rarity.

When eligible, you’ll see three Upgrade Presets options displayed on the upgrade screen (as shown in the image). These presets correspond to the most commonly used max upgrade states.

Important Notes:

  • If you manually upgrade your car, the preset options will become greyed out depending on the track you’ve already upgraded. For example, fully upgrading the engine will disable the 2.3, 3.3, 3.3 option. Choose carefully!

  • When using Fuse Tokens, the first four car fuses are instant and won’t trigger a fuse timer.

Legacy Rarity explained

When a car changes rarity, it will receive a Legacy Rarity status, which comes with specific effects. Read on to learn more about how it works.

Finding Legacy Rarity Cars

  • Cars updated in the current cycle will automatically gain the Legacy Rarity status.

  • You can filter for Legacy Rarity cars in the Status section.

  • On the car’s expanded card, you’ll see a Legacy Rarity icon similar to the Prize Car icon. The icon’s color matches the car’s previous rarity.

How Legacy Rarity is Applied
A car gains Legacy Rarity status only if it’s in your garage at the time the rarity correction is released.

Example:

  • You own an Epic car.

  • After an update, it is reclassified as a Legendary.

  • Your Epic will upgrade to Legendary but retain Epic Legacy Rarity.

  • If you acquire the car after the update, it will be a standard Legendary without Legacy Rarity status.

Effects of Legacy Rarity

  1. Sell Value - A car with Legacy Rarity retains the sell value of its previous rarity.

    • Example: A Legendary car with Epic Legacy Rarity sells for the price of an Epic, while the same car without Legacy Rarity sells at the Legendary price.

  2. Fusion Rarity - When used to fuse another car, the Legacy Rarity car retains its previous rarity tier.

    • Example: A Legendary car with Epic Legacy Rarity will act as an Epic when fusing. Without Legacy Rarity, it fuses as a Legendary.

  3. Fusion Requirements - Legacy Rarity does not affect the rarity of cars required to fuse it.

    • Example: If an Epic becomes a Legendary, it will still require Epic or Legendary cars for fusion, regardless of its Legacy Rarity status.

In the example above, the Twizy was originally a Common car (as indicated by the gray icon) but has been reclassified as Uncommon. If you sell this car, you will receive cash equivalent to its previous Common rarity.

When fusing, the Twizy will still be treated as a Common car. For instance, you can use it to fuse into a Common and Uncommon car, but not Rare.

To fuse this car, you will need other Common cars.

In the case of a higher rarity car, such as an Ultra Rare that becomes an Epic, it will still be considered an Ultra Rare when selling it for cash or using it as a fuse food. But to upgrade and fuse this now Epic car, you will need Ultra Rare cars.

How long will a car’s Legacy Rarity status be stored?

A car’s Legacy Rarity status will not be removed. Cars acquired after they changed rarity won’t have a Legacy Rarity status. They’ll only gain the status if you own them in your garage when the rarity changes are released.

What will happen to the cars that received Legacy status in the World Expo rarity change?

Cars that received Legacy Rarity status during the original 2022 Car Rarity Changes will retain this status. If a car with Legacy Rarity undergoes another rarity change in a later update, it will preserve its original Legacy Rarity status.

Example:

  • In 2022, a car changed from Common to Uncommon, gaining Common Legacy Rarity.

  • In 2024, the same car changes again, from Uncommon to Rare. It will still retain its Common Legacy Rarity.

  • As a result, the car’s cash sell value and fusion rarity will continue to reflect its original Common status.

If a car which Rarity went up or down in 2022 reverts to its original Rarity as a result of the Rarity Change in 24.1, it will lose its Legacy Rarity Status.

How does Legacy Rarity status affect the feature where a duplicate Legendary can be used instead of three Epics/Legendaries to fuse another Legendary?

The Legacy Legendary Tier of a card will take precedence over the car’s corrected tier. This ensures the value of the Legendary car is preserved, even if its rarity is downgraded.

Example:

  • A Legendary car is corrected to Epic but retains its Legendary Legacy Status.

  • The car will still be treated as a Legendary for fusion purposes. If the player owns two copies of this car, both owned prior to the correction, they will indeed count as duplicates, meaning a fusion on another Legendary can be performed using only one of them.

If you have one copy of a car that you owned when it was originally Epic and which subsequently became Legendary, and another copy of the car that you dropped after it had become a Legendary - you will not be able to use one of these cars as a duplicate, as sole fusion food for another Legendary. For fusion, one car has the value of an Epic, and the other that of a Legendary.

This ensures that players maintain the value and utility of their cars, regardless of rarity changes.

Token Duration and Usage Rules

Unlike the previous iteration of the feature, where tokens expired 31 days after the feature was launched, Upgrade and Fuse Tokens in the 24.1 update will never expire.

There are some rules on how Tokens can be utilised:

  • You must use Upgrade Tokens when upgrading a car if they are available - you cannot use cash unless you do not have Upgrade tokens left for that car’s rarity.

  • You can choose whether to use Fuse Tokens or the usual cars plus cash.

  • If you choose to fuse cars from your garage, the fuse will be subject to the standard fuse timer.

If you choose to use Fuse Tokens, your first 4 fuses will not incur the timer per car.

Can the Upgrade and Fuse Tokens be exchanged for cash?

No, Tokens cannot be exchanged for cash. As Tokens do not expire, they will not be automatically exchanged for cash as in the previous rarity change.

How can I see how many Upgrade and Fuse tokens I have left?

Upgrade and Fuse Tokens are categorized by rarity and are issued based on the car’s rarity before correction. There are two ways to view your remaining Tokens:

  1. Through the Updated Car

    • Tap on the car in your garage that underwent a rarity change.

    • The number of available Tokens will be displayed in the top-right corner of the screen.

Via the Tokens Button

  • On the My Cars screen, press the Tokens button to open a detailed overview of all your available Tokens.

Important Notes:

  • If you have no Tokens, the Tokens button will not appear in the garage.

  • If none of your cars have undergone rarity changes, the button will also be hidden.

  • Once all your Tokens are used, the Tokens button will disappear.

What makes a car qualify for resetting its upgrades and issuing Upgrade/Fuse tokens?

A car you own will have its upgrades reset and Upgrade/Fuse tokens issued if its rarity changed. The system works exactly the same if the car’s rarity goes up or down; we don’t differentiate between them.

Are there different Upgrade and Fuse tokens for the different Upgrade and Fuse levels?

No, Tokens do not distinguish between different upgrade or fuse stages. An Upgrade Token issued for a 1.1 upgrade is identical to one issued for a 3.3 upgrade. However, Tokens are categorized by rarity, based on the car’s rarity prior to its change.

Will Fuse tokens bypass the fuse timer?

Fuse tokens bypass the fuse timer if they’re used for a car’s first 4 fuses. Fuse tokens used for a car’s 5th or higher upgrade will trigger the fuse wait timer. The timer can still be skipped by using Gold.

Do cards show if a car had a previous rarity to its new one?

If you owned a car at the time its rarity changed, you’ll see a Legacy Rarity icon on its expanded card, similar to the Prize Car icon. The icon’s color corresponds to the car’s previous rarity. However, the car’s former rarity is not displayed on either the front or back of the card.

Are There Plans to Reset Cars That Experience Significant Stat Changes Without a Rarity Change?

At this time, token compensation is only applied to cars that have had their rarity changed. There are no plans to reset cars that undergo significant stat changes without a rarity adjustment.
