ME AND MY CAR: TOM AND THE MERCEDES 300SE
Posted on
Here at Hutch we make racing games for mobile, and that means some of us are car people! From a classic Caterham to the modern classic Nissan 350Z, Hutchies drive a whole host of different cars, but we all have a passion for sharing our love of automobiles! Here's Marketing Artist, Tom to talk about his love for the Mercedes 300SE...
When did you get your car and why?
I bought my 1991 Mercedes 300SE (or better known as the S-Class) a few months ago and have loved it since! I’ve always loved older cars from the 80s and 90s, especially big boxy cars. I bought the car because ever since I started driving I wanted one and starting my job at Hutch felt like the best time to buy one!
What’s the best thing about your car?
The thing I love most about the car is how comfy it is to drive. The front and back seats are like sitting on a big plush sofa so cruising about in it feels effortless. I can do any journey in it and not have to worry about if I'm going to get uncomfortable or bored as it’s such a joy to drive.
What’s great (or not so great!) about driving your car?
There’s definitely pros and cons to driving my car. One big pro being it has a cassette player and came with loads of 80s and 90s cassettes which make driving it even more fun! The car gets lots of looks driving about and I've had lots of people ask me about it already.
One not so great thing is it uses quite a bit of fuel but it still doesn’t put me off driving the car everywhere.
Do you go to track days or community meet-ups?
I attend lots of meet ups in the car including various cars and coffees and events with friends. Most of my friends are into cars so we do lots of small get-togethers and an event we like to call a ‘Lock In’ at my father's factory. This consists of a load of us getting together in the factory car park, locking the gates and having a bbq. It’s been a great, chilled way for all of us to get together and chat about cars.
Happiest memory of driving your car?
The best memory of driving my car so far has been attending a cars and coffee in London with some friends when I first bought the car. I drove it from Portsmouth and we spent the day driving round London, finding cool spots to chill out and even took some pictures outside the Hutch office!
Would you recommend your car to others?
I’d definitely recommend the car to others if you enjoy cruising about in a big car and chilling out. It’s not particularly fast but you don’t need it to be when you can sit back, stick a Duran Duran cassette in and pop the sunroof open.
Stay tuned for more Hutchies and their cars!
