The Basics

Q.What’s your job role at Hutch?

A.I am one of the Art Directors here at Hutch. I have a team of artists who make the amazing content in Rebel Racing while I guide its creation. I concentrate on the larger aesthetic details, such as theme and tone, and determine how best to represent the game director’s concepts.

Q.How many years of Hutch are you celebrating?

A.I have been at Hutch for 8 years now. When I joined there were only 7 of us, now we number nearly 100!

Being a Hutchie

Q.What’s been your favourite moment at Hutch?

A.There have been a lot. A stand out moment was having my artwork featured internationally on the App Store for the release of Smash Bandits. Had a couple of very satisfying pints in the pub that evening :)

Q.Which 3 words best describe your time at Hutch so far?

A.Friends, teamwork, jokesNfun

Q.If Hutch was an animal, what would it be?

A.A grizzly bear, all warm and cuddly.

Q.If Hutch was a car, what would it be?

A.I think it started as a Williams edition Clio, a lot more capable than you think at first glance, but it’s definitely something with a few more seats now...

Your role

Q.What’s the most important thing you’ve learnt at Hutch?

Bit of a cliche but it’s the group effort that makes the difference, no individual can carry it on their own.

A.What’s been your biggest challenge?

Stepping back and letting other people do the art.

Q.What advice would you give to someone interested in doing a similar role?

A.Make plenty of time to talk to your team, get used to switching focus often and give your feedback in a constructive and positive way.

Car Stuff

Q.Do you have to be a petrolhead to work at Hutch? How much do you like cars?

A.It’s not essential, but your love of cars will probably grow while you’re here… When I joined I was a 3 out of 10 but now I’m a solid 5!

Q.What would be your dream car?

A.Audi Quattro, but to be honest it’s hard to dream of anything without decent ISOFIX these days.

Q.What’s the coolest car-related thing you’ve done while working at Hutch?

A.The Twin town trip was amazing (we had a Volvo T5) but the actual stand out car moment was when we did a photoshoot for the launch of TopDrives. Evo were bringing along a load of cars so we needed a few more to finish the line up. A group of us went out and rented cars and I ended up driving an Audi R8 V10 around for the day.
